Three Peas and a Dog

Photobucket

Leslie and I met through Mom’s Club in Robbinsville, NJ a few years ago. She has always been a great support to me. I know when I had Sean, she delivered meals to my door within a week. They were perfect for those nights that I just did not want to cook.  Leslie is another friend of mine that has so many talents. Take a look at her site and you will see what I mean! I swear I have the most talented friends ever!

Hi everyone! I’m Leslie…a born and raised Jersey Girl with three little peas and a bullie named Ozzie. With the three peas being ages six and under, our household is always loud and chaotic. I wouldn’t have it any other way (most of the time).  I have a crafting problem, for which I blame my mother.  She was a master of all trades, and has passed that passion to me.  I like trying new crafts and projects, right now focusing on cookie decorating, knitting and sewing.  My family is my biggest inspiration, so my current projects include children’s scarves and reversible headbands (for my diva Pea), boo-boo bags (for my rugged and rowdy Peas) and lots of cookies (loved by all my Peas).  I love creating hand-made gifts for friends and family, and I’m hoping to create those -made with love- items for you to give to your loved ones!

Mommy, Daddy and Mason

Mommmy, Daddy and Mason

Hi, my name’s Tabitha and I blog over at Mommy, Daddy and Mason. As you can tell by the title my blog is all about my little family, we live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and spend a lot of time outdoors, even though it rains 364 days of the year. Mason is a very active 4 year old and we go on a lot of adventures, this blog is a great way to document everything, cause let’s face it I have a horrible memory! I love cooking, reading, watching tv/movies, reviewing things, just giving my opinion, but mainly exploring with my family. I’m not crafty so you won’t find too many of those posts’ around here. What you will find is lots of pictures of a handsome little blued eyed guy!! I hope you come by and check out my blog, you won’t be disappointed 😉

A Geek In Glasses

I am wife, momma, artist, photographer, farmer and fiber spinner.

My husband and I met before I was out of high school and spent the first 10 years of our relationship in search of vintage treasures. We have a 1956 Dodge, black with flames. I have a love of Fiesta Ware and hubby loves vintage smoking advertising. During that time I worked as a Graphic Designer in a little design firm outside of Hartford, CT.
Fast forward to now, we are farmers of a 2 acres fiber farm with 6 animals. We also farm 3 acres of pumpkins at my grandfather’s farm. We own a 1939 Allis Chalmers tractor that we toy around with.
I studied at the Art Institute of Pittsburg for photography and enjoy photographing people and places throughout Central PA.
We have many, many hobbies. Husband is a Blacksmith and Medieval Competitive Sword Fighter. I love crafts of all kinds and our daughter keeps us busy with Irish Step Dance and a love of Pirates. We also enjoy Letterboxing, hiking, and a vast array of other things.

Elissa Harris from PartyLite

Elissa and I met awhile back when I first moved to NJ. She was one of the co-presidents of the local moms clubs. We have stayed in touch ever since and I wanted to share with you a little bit about her Party Lite business. Take it away Elissa….

HI…I’m Elissa. I am a mother of three boys. They are 16, 12 and 10 and they keep me going ALL THE TIME. PartyLite and I are celebrating our 40th birthdays in April and March respectively. I have been with PartyLite for nearly 19 years and I love that I was able to bring in some “fun money” while staying home with my boys.

What I love most about PartyLite is the opportunity it provides to ALL types of people. With the free to start up program, it allows anyone to start a personal business. With the AMAZING scents and different types of products, we suit all tastes and decor. The greatest thing in our line for “new mommies” are the scentglow warmers. They provide a wonderful scent throughout the room without the flame of a candle. You simply pick your scent and plug it in

Mommy and The Mouse

Why Mommy and The Mouse? Because my life revolves around being a “Mommy” and my love for “The Mouse” (aka anything Disney).

I am a military wife and mom of two wonderful, and very busy boys. I refer to them on my page, blog and twitter as Phineas and Ferb. The names actually fit them perfectly as well. My oldest is a man of few words and has an “engineers” mind like Ferb. My youngest, just like Phineas, has red hair and is the instigator! There are times when they’re playing in their playroom and I’m almost scared to check on them for fear of what I may find!!!!!

My husband is currently serving in the United States Air Force. His career has taken us to some interesting places. We’ve lived in Nevada, New Mexico and now reside in Georgia. When we found out we were moving to Georgia, I had to look up exactly how close we would be to Disney World….. a mere 235 miles!!!! I was SO excited. I started planning our first visit since our honeymoon in 2004.

As for “The Mouse”…. From my first visit to Walt Disney World in 1992, I’ve been hooked. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to Disney World quite a few times and was able to visit Disneyland Paris and Disneyland as well.

If we are not on a Disney vacation, I am planning our next! There is something about Disney that I can’t express in words. It doesn’t matter how old you are, when you see Cinderella’s castle, you turn into a 4 year old little girl again!

I hope you enjoy this page as much as I enjoy sharing my love for Disney with you.

Janine’s Confessions of a Mommyholic

Janine and I became friends a few months ago – we just happened to find each other on the Facebook blogger world. She has helped me navigate the blog world and has introduced me to a ton of new friends. Thanks Janine – oh and she also just won a large ad space from my giveaway so look for a page dedicate to Janine’s Confessions of a Mommyholic coming up in the next few weeks! Enjoy!

Hi all, my name is Janine. I am wife, a mother, and a teacher turned writer.  I actually started out working in the business world when I was single with a degree in Management, but decided to go back to school for education.  I have a master’s degree and am certified to teach math for grades 5-12.  I taught in both high school and middle school settings, when I was first married back in 2006.  My husband and I actually met on Match.com and only lived five minutes away from each other.

I was still teaching when I had my first daughter, Emma in July 2009.  Emma was only 7 1/2 months old, when I found out I was pregnant with our second.  As much as, I love our younger daughter, Lily, to say she was a surprise would be an understatement, because Emma had colic as an infant and still wasn’t sleeping through the night.  But in hindsight, I think it was a blessing in disguise, because I lost my teaching job when I was five months pregnant due to the tanking economy and budget cuts.  About a month later, I was put on bed rest from some abnormal spotting.  Thankfully, even though, this pregnancy was considered high risk for the remainder of it, Lily was born healthy and term at 39 weeks gestation in November 2010.  My girls are my world and just couldn’t imagine not having them.

However, almost a year after having her, there still were no teaching jobs opening or on the horizon.  In June 2012, I stumbled onto a site online called Hubpages, where I found my writing voice all over again.  By the way, I always loved to write, but time and age had somehow gotten in the way.  But Hubpages gave it back to me and then I started to blog in August 2012.  First on Blogger, then over to WordPress.com and eventually I decided to purchase my own domain and host my own site on WordPress.org.  I have only been blogging for less than 6 months, but absolutely love it, because I have truly gained such a self worth from it, as well as become friends with some wonderful bloggers, who are nothing short of amazing.  By the way, in November 2012, I signed up for NanoWriMo (a novel writing contest), where I wrote a whole novel in a month’s time.  I am editing now and am so excited to finish editing to try my hand at self publishing.  In the end, I am just so thankful for my writing experiences and as crazy as my daily life is being a wife, mother and now indeed as a writer, I truly wouldn’t have it any other way.

Michelle from Rodan and Fields Dermatologists
Michelle and I actually grew up together back in Delaware. We spent some time car pooling to gymnastics class. Well we never went to the same school and I think at least 25 years went by before we reconnected again on Facebook! We have quickly become close online friends and bond over the fact that we both have two toddler boys  around the same age! She has just started working for Rodan and Fields. So I would love to introduce you to her and her product line.

My name is Michelle Rankin. I am a stay at home Mom of two little guys, Spencer (3), and Preston (almost 2!). I’ve been married to my husband, Sean, for 7 years now but I’ve known him for over 25 years… and knew that I was going to marry him for almost that long! Prior to staying at home with the boys, I worked for Limited Stores for almost 13 years. Sean has been a police officer for almost 15 years. We were both born and raised in Delaware and can’t think of a place where we would be any happier… except maybe just an hour South, beachfront in Delaware. Yes, Delaware has great beaches. No doubt that we’ll eventually settle in Rehoboth Beach at some point. That’s were we spent our summers growing up, where we have made friends on the beach who have become like family, and where I hope our boys will come to love as much as we do.  Some other things that I love… football, beach volleyball, old jeeps, rock crawling, music, fashion, home DIY projects, and RODAN AND FIELDS DERMATOLOGISTS!!

I partnered with Rodan and Fields Dermatologists after being introduced to the company by my friend and neighbor, Joanne. She is a busy Mom of 2 with a very high profile, full time job in pharmaceuticals. In addition, she teaches at The University of Delaware. I couldn’t imagine how she was possibly fitting anything else into her life. In the mean time, I had been secretly praying for something to come along that would allow me to work and contribute to our finances. While I love being at home with the kids, like so many other Moms, I began to lose a little of myself. I missed working but I knew that staying home was a bigger priority to me. I also missed having financial breathing room, but again, staying home was more important and I knew that with Sean’s shift work schedule, I would never be able to work without a major juggling act involving child care. I honestly worried about the future as we were living paycheck to paycheck. So… I started watching what Joanne was doing. I was skeptical because I didn’t really understand what it was all about… but the more she shared with me and seeing her success in such a short period of time, the more interested I became. I started my research and came to realize that direct sales is the perfect business model for this day and age for a product like this. Rodan and Fields are the world renowned doctors that created Proactiv Solution for acne and they have long dominated that industry. They have now develop a multi-med, clinically based skin care line to address concerns beyond acne such as sensitive skin, sun damage, and aging skin. While their line was successfully sold in retail stores the doctors knew that putting their product in the hands of independent consultants was the smarter way to market… and they were so right! I soon began to feel like I would regret passing up this once in a lifetime chance to introduce something brand new to a whole world of customers. I also realized that my prayer had been answered! I’m now completely changing the course for my family’s financial future… I’m doing it on my own time, in part time hours, while still allowing me to be at home and present with my children. I’m so excited to see our growth over the next several years and will be happy to look back and say that I was a part of the beginning!

I would love to share more about our skin changing products and our life changing business opportunity.

Photography by Jen Davis

Jen Davis, is one of my closest friends in the world. I only met her 4 1/2 years ago but it only took a few playdates with our little ones to realize that we had a connection. Jen is a wonderful person and would do anything for you. This girl has so many awesome talents and photography is just one of them. You have to check out her site. She has taken pictures of my kids and I love her to death. Oh and she also designed a lot of my blog page – headers, buttons, etc. She is a genius and I could never repay her for all the work that she has done for me. Take a moment to read up on Jen and her Photography. She’s brilliant.

I am a mom, wife, photographer, friend, playground gossip, and wine lover, though the order changes on any given day. I will add that I do all of these things with one hand, because the other always has some sort of caffeinated beverage…yes, I am quite the juggler. Priorities people.
Know what else I love? I mean, besides my offspring and handsome hubs? Cheesy things like reading, travelling, and drinking wine with friends. I’ll give you two guesses which ones I don’t do anymore since previously mentioned offspring were born {insert raised eyebrow here}.
I am a self taught photographer.  I have always loved the diving back into the memories that a picture can offer.  I love that that I can take pictures of families, babies, and children…and give them a lasting and treasured physical memory of a special time. I love making my clients happy.  Its what I strive to do with every session.  Thank you for choosing custom photography. Your family’s memories are priceless, and I appreciate you considering and trusting me to immortalize them. I look http://photographybyjendavis.com/

Birthdays, Beers and Broken Things…..

So this past week/weekend was such a busy one. Lets just say the craziness all started on Wednesday at 6:30am when I had one of the worst days ever. You can read about that here: http://erintheirishmama.com/2013/01/worst-day-ever.html
So between the broken TV, the dead mini van and a whole lot of crazy in my house, I was ready for the weekend.
On Thursday we had to drive Joey to the train station at 6:30am so that I could keep his car to get the kids to school.  Oh and Ben’s birthday festivities started after school on Thursday, so I had a few errands to run. We had a small birthday party for him with some friends on Thursday. My mom was brave (or just crazy) and came up to help out with the crew.  The kids had fun playing with the toys, eating cake and ice cream and the school moms had a chance to catch up a little bit. Ben was wild and hyper but that has become the new “typical” for Ben.

Yes, I know that Thomas’ face was a little to dark but I have the worst time mixing colors for my cakes!!! But Ben didnt’ seem to notice so that’s all that matters!!!!
.
The first of several birthday parties was a success.  Ben was a happy camper.
Friday was Ben’s actual birthday. He woke up in a crazy, hyper mood (typical) and we celebrated with some real (not frozen) pancakes. I even added sprinkles to them for birthday pancakes! The boys were thrilled.
Birthday Pancakes
Ben opened his presents from Mom Mom McGarry before we headed off to school.
So then we squeezed everyone back into Joey’s car along with 2 dozen Thomas cupcakes for his school party (I forgot to take a picture of those – but they turned out pretty cute). My mom and I headed to Cracker Barrel for a nice breakfast and ran a few errands before heading back to pick up the boys!
Around 2pm, my van was finally ready (after a new battery, water pump, sensor and an oil change) so we all headed over to the dealership to pick it up. I will say that the new shiny new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited was looking pretty good on the lot. But I have a few more years with my mini van so I was just admiring them! I was just thankful to have my full sized mini van back. I like Joey’s BMW but it’s a bit tiny for the boys and all their stuff! Plus it’s much easier with the minivan’s self opening doors, trunk and the car seats are much higher up in the van. My back hurt trying to strap those bad boys into their seats. I honestly felt a little claustrophobic with everyone in the car at once.
After we got back home Mom Mom and Pop Pop Callaway showed up for the family birthday festivities. Once daddy came home from work it was time for dinner, cake and then presents. Yes, I did enjoy torturing Ben by making him wait until after dinner and cake for his presents!!! Mwahaha (that’s my evil mom laugh).  Mom Mom Callaway made a delicious giant cupcake cake and Ben blew out all five candles in one quick breath!!! Gosh this kid is so shy even in front of his parents and grandparents!

We had a great night celebrating with all of the grandparents!!
Saturday morning was time for mommy and daddy to get out and celebrate with some great friends. We headed off to the Asbury Park Beer Festival while Mom Mom and Pop Pop Callaway watched our crazy boys. It was a great time with some awesome brews.  It was a little sad seeing the boardwalk and beaches destroyed from Hurricane Sandy but I hope that they can get it rebuilt for the summer. I have never been down to Asbury Park and Belmar and would love to take the kids there this summer for some day trips. So I am praying that they get the funding to Restore the Shore!
We followed it up with a delicious dinner at Pete & Elda’s for some awesome pizza. We all had a great time and I can’t wait to get together again. Thanks again to Steve, Allison, Mike and Caralyn for a wonderful day. Joey and I are looking forward to getting together for our next event (even if it is a stupid movie trilogy – haha).
Even though the week started off pretty crappy, we did end up finishing it up on a high note! Now if only the Superbowl was this weekend I’d be a little happier! Thanks again to everyone for helping us celebrate Ben’s fifth birthday.  It was a wonderful week with friends, family, birthdays and beer!!!! Two parties down, one to go!!

PS. We woke up this morning to Joey’s car not working properly! Seriously? I thought our string of bad luck was over? Anyone want to donate to a new car or $50k? Whichever you prefer or is easier for you! Thanks! Hahaha Happy MONDAY to us!

Let’s get some more votes in for the Top Mommy Blogs. You guys have pushed me all the way up to the number 22 spot! You are the best bunch of readers, friends, family that a girl / mommy blogger could ever ask for! Thanks again for your support!

5 Wonderful, Joyous, Crazy Years

Where in the hell did the past five years go. Yes, I know some days it seems like it’s been 10 years since I gave birth to my first born son, but I still can’t get over that I now have a five year old child. Now he is half way to 10. WHAT?
Five years ago today, I was scared, happy, nervous, anxious and fearful. I had every right to be. I was due with my first child and had to schedule a c-section because of his ginormous size. I had an ultrasound at 37 weeks and they predicted that he could be anywhere from 10-12lbs. My OB did not recommend natural childbirth. He thought I would go through all of that and still end up getting a c-section. Plus with my history of passing out with all things medical, I would have rather had the c-section than push.
At the time I was also dealing with my father’s cancer. He was very, very sick and I was praying each day that he would just hold on long enough to meet my son. He did. He died 3 weeks later. But he met him a few times.
Plus I had all those fears of becoming a first time parent. Will I be a good mom? Will I drop him? Will I know when to feed him? Will I know what to do if he gets sick? It’s all stuff that you figure out as you go along but it’s all so scary.  Yes, I was a professional babysitter at one point in my life but those were other peoples kids. I was only responsible for them for a few short hours, not 24/7.
The day he was born we had a little bit of snow. Of course that would happen. It was a good sign for me since I was born in a blizzard.  We drove to the hospital bright and early on Friday, January 25th. We checked in and I was given my bed and my hospital gown.

I was so nervous about the surgery but thankful that I didn’t know what to expect. I guess I didn’t realize that it was a major surgery, I mean I knew, but I didn’t know everything.  It’s a little weird walking into the ER to have major surgery while you are wide awake.  Finally I was given my spinal and that’s when my anxiety hit. I was laying on the table waiting for Joey to come into the room and I started to have my anxiety attack. I was calm enough during the surgery and the anesthesiologist was right there to pump me with anxiety meds the second he was out.

So at 11:51am on Friday, January 25th, I gave birth to a beautiful little boy. Benjamin Ryan Callaway. 9lbs, 8ozs, 21 inches long.  He was the most gorgeous blonde haired, chunky little man that I have ever laid eyes on.

Right away the doctor told me that he was born with some birth marks, which we later found out was speckled lentiginous nevus.  He had nine moles on his arm – which have since turned into 20 or so. We take him every year to the skin cancer center at NYU. They are okay for now but we will always need to get them checked out (like mother, like son). I was just thankful that he was healthy and breathing and my goodness, I just gave birth to a baby that was well over 9lbs. Thank God I had that c-section.
We spent four wonderful (ha) days in the hospital before they sent us home with this little guy. I could barely walk from the c-section but they said we had to go!
My husband was wonderful during it all. He was able to change diapers, feed him in the middle of the night and help out when I just couldn’t do it because of the surgery. Our first few weeks home were a blur. We barely slept, but we loved that little man so much. He was our angel. He was there to put a smile on our faces after my dad and Joey’s uncle both passed away. That’s the good thing about babies, they can cheer you up when you are at your worst.
Now here we are 5 years later. This little guy has turned into such a beautiful little soul. Yes, he can be a trouble maker and has a mouth like a trucker, but he is still so sweet and joyful to be around. He will make you laugh and can tell you all 700 different Thomas trains. Trust me, he will correct you if you are wrong.
He is a smart ass and a kiss ass all rolled into one. He knows how to work the system but he does it in a way that you can’t resist or say no.
Just look how the little guy has grown over the years!

Recently he has decided to do his own hair. Oh my! Thank goodness it’s the winter and I can cover it up with a hat. Every day he is into something new. One day it’s Chuggington, the next day it’s Thomas or Chuck, or Rescue Bots. I never know what to expect from him.
Now I know that he has given us some scares these past few months with his seizures (which you can read about here and here). But he has been a real trooper. He takes his medicine twice a day and never complains.  He knows it helps him and he will do anything to avoid going back to the doctor. He truly is a wonderful kid and you can read more about him here when I blogged about him for one of my Thirty Days of Thanks in November
He is one brave kid!
Here’s a quick view of Ben’s birthdays over the past 5 years.
Ben’s 1st Birthday Party – He was not too happy about the cake smushing!
Ben’s 2nd Birthday Party – we were all sick so the party was canceled and it was just the family
Ben’s 3rd Birthday Party – Bowling Day with his friends
Ben’s 4th Birthday Party – He is starting to get into this a little bit now!
Ben’s 5th Birthday Party (Party #1 with some friends from school)

I still can’t believe that my little baby is now 5 years old. I know we have had some rough days recently but I love him more and more each day and I cannot imagine living my life without him. He truly is one amazing kid.

Happy Birthday Benjamin Ryan!

Mommy, Daddy and Sean love you so very much!

XOXO
Erin

The 2013 Versatile Blogger Award

So I was in the kitchen last night making several batches of icing for Ben’s upcoming birthday parties and I kept hearing my iPad buzzing. Normally I would have run to check it but I was in icing hell. Trying to dye icing to match Thomas colors is not fun. I mean can’t Wilton just sell premade red and black icing already. It’s a pain in the butt. But anyone, I am going off on a tangent here.  So after an hour or so I finally get to sit down on the computer and I see that I have about 10 tweets regarding the 2013 Versatile Blogger Award that was just passed along to me! I have not heard of it before but I along with a few other bloggers were given the award from Janine from Confessions of a Mommyholic.  You might remember her from some of my previous posts – she does the Finish the Sentence Friday Blog Hops. Check her out if you haven’t already!

The 2013 Versatile Blogger Award

Now this award does come with a few “rules”.  These are not really rules but guidelines to help spread the word of other wonderful bloggers. They are simple and easy and I can’t wait to tag some of my favorite bloggers!

  • Thank the blogger who shared this awesome award with you. Thank you so much Janine! You have helped me come a long way with my blogging. You have introduced me to so many new people, it’s amazing what you can do!
  • Add the Versatile Blogger Award to your post and site. Check it out on the right side of my page! Woo Hoo! My first award!
  • Tell 7 interesting facts about yourself. See my 7 below.
  • Nominate other bloggers that are deserving of the award. I have a few in mind – check my list below.
  • Let them know you nominated them. You better watch out, because I am going to start tagging you on Facebook and/or Twitter!
Now the hard part. I have to think of 7 fun and interesting things about myself that you don’t already know! This could be tough.

1. I am making several cakes this week for my son’s 5th Birthday party. One Thomas cake for his school friends, one batch of Thomas cupcakes for his school party and then finally another batch of cupcakes for his other friend party. Whew! I am on sugar overload just thinking about it all.

2. I get panic attacks when I have to take both of the boys out at once. I will admit that I am getting much better at it, but if I have to take them both to Shop Rite at the same time I might just have a heart attack in the produce section.  They are so wild and crazy and overwhelm me – but my husband can handle it no problem. Maybe they just don’t like me. Or maybe I just need to up my dosage of Valium!

3. I am dying to get tickets to the New Kids on the Block, 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men tour.  Anybody else want to go with me. It’s my not so secret obsession!

4. Five years ago today I was starting to have panic attacks knowing that I was scheduled for a c-section in two short days. I pass out with anything that has to do with blood or stitches so how on earth would I survive a major surgery when I was wide awake and couldn’t take any calming drugs! But I survived and I went through it again for my second child. So I guess it wasn’t too bad but the unknown was torture.

5. I am going through serious wine withdrawal tonight. I ran out of wine right around the time that I got the flu. I haven’t had a moment to hit up the liquor store so I have been drinking beer and tonight I moved on to a bottle of my Skinnygirl Margarita. I am really missing my Bota Box right now!!! I might have to run to Trader Joe’s for some cheap Charles Shaw Chardonnay.  Seriously I have not had wine sine January 7th – my birthday. It’s unheard of.

6. I am obsessed with Kohls. I mean seriously, where else can you get such great deals. Now if they only sold milk and bread my life would be complete! I have a merchandise credit that is burning a hole in my wallet right now. I must go there to find some Valentine’s Day decorations!!!!!

7.  I honestly don’t know if I can come up with something else about myself. I share so much with everyone, I am an open book. If there’s something that you want to know, ask. I will tell you!!! I am not shy about being open with others! Okay there – that’s my number 7. I am not shy when it comes to sharing information. I am probably a little too open with things!

Now to fun part. I am going to pick some of my favorite mommy bloggers who I think are very deserving of this fun award!

Now I am off to tag these wonderful bloggers and award them with the Versatile Blogger award! Thanks again Janine for adding me to your list!
