Complete Denial

I am 100% in complete denial that summer break starts tomorrow at 1:30pm. I don’t think that there is enough wine in New Jersey to get me through this summer. This will probably be the hardest summer home with the boys yet.  I really do want to be that mom that enjoys having my kids around all summer, I miss them when they are at school but when all three of them are home together, it’s a nightmare. I have 3 little minions who can entertain me and show me all of the joys of summertime that I have long forgotten but unfortunately, that’s not what happens in our house. I love them all to death, I would give my life for theirs, but man, summer is hard!  But we are going to try our best to have one awesome summer….just as long as the boys cooperate!

Sidenote…. now that school is ending, everything that my kids could possibly hoard at school has been sent home in their backpacks over the past week.   I have this endless pile of papers to go through. Time to reduce and recycle their gorgeous math worksheets. I have been pretty good about trashing things this year but they just quadrupled my pile of papers.  This is my project for the first week of summer vacation.

The past few weeks have really been rough for us.  Joey has been dealing with a serious leg injury preventing him from doing a lot of things.  He has been resting that leg as much as possible.  The boys have also been giving us a hard time, we are at our breaking point with the oldest boys and I have never had so much anxiety about spending a summer with all three of them.  I really want to be able to do fun and exciting things with the kids but when all they do is act up, I refuse to reward them.  I attempt one or two things and if they misbehave then I just want to skip out on the rest of the fun.  It’s a nightmare.  Why should we even bother.  One of these days I hope that they realize all of the fun things that we could have been doing if they just stopped fighting and acting up.  One on one they are awesome and fun.  But put them together and it’s mayhem. I mean these boys got into a huge fight at the local Veterans Cemetery minutes before they placed flags on all of the graves.  Yes ladies and gentlemen, those are my kids.  It’s embarrassing and I can’t control them so that’s why I struggle taking all of the boys somewhere by myself.  It’s hard even when Joey is with us, I can’t imagine all by myself.  I give so much credit to those parents that venture out with all of their kids.  It takes a village but some days even the village throws up the white flag.

Even tonight at Ben’s basketball evaluations, it was nonstop fighting.  The car ride over was a nightmare, then it rained and we were moved to another court, more fighting.  Then when we finally get there they are fighting and punching and kicking right up until Ben got called onto the court.  It’s NEVERENDING!!!!!!!

Now Owen, let’s talk about that little minion.  He’s cute but don’t be fooled by that adorable face and his cute, kind words.

image  image

We will all be sitting outside on the deck or playing basketball and Owen will catch my eye, give me a smirk and then take off. And when he takes of he doesn’t stop or look.  This kid is going to give me a heart attack.  Everyone always laughs that I still keep him in his stroller, but I have a valid reason for it.  It’s not to make my life easier, it’s to keep him safe. But every time I chase after him, the other boys freak out.  Just last week, Owen took off up the sidewalk.  He was on his big wheel so I caught him only 2 houses away.  Well I ended up running into a neighbor and started chatting.  10 minutes later I walk back and Ben and Sean were in tears.  They thought that I got kidnapped.  So not only does Owen give me heart palpitations but he is causing his brothers to stress out as well.

I did finally sit down and book some camps for them {THANK GOD}. See my pile of medical forms, pickup authorizations, emergency contact forms, etc….

image

They both will go to cub scout camp and a local summer camp for a few weeks. Sean will also do two weeks of basketball camp and Ben is going to play in a nighttime basketball league {which I mentioned started tonight}. Oh and Sean needs a little help with math so he is doing the school’s summer math program. I am glad that he will be getting some extra help, he’s not as excited about that camp as I am.  So Sean will be booked up pretty much the entire summer.  Ben, not so much. I am also hoping and praying that since Sean will be gone a lot, that the fighting will be minimal but I also need a ton of new ideas to entertain Ben when he isn’t at camp.  He really thinks that he is going to spend his entire summer on the iPad.  NOPE, NOT HAPPENING!!!!   He is not the easiest child on the planet so it will be a struggle but I plan on helping him with his handwriting, some math skills and some good old fashioned fun. Ben will regret not wanting to do more camps! But we do have a fun vacation planned, and I will squeeze in some bowling, slip and slides, swimming, play dates and sleepovers and some other fun activities. It won’t all be camps and work!

Mommy and daddy even have some fun plans this summer. We just saw Dave Matthew’s last week and are headed back again this weekend. I can’t wait to spend an evening out with Joey, our cousin and our friends. It should be a fun weekend.  We also are going to see Coldplay in August.  We saw them a long time ago at MSG in NYC and I absolutely loved their live show. I just hope that they are still as good as they were 12 or so years ago!

So tell me guys, what are your plans for your kids this summer.  Tell me that I am not alone with my anxiety? I really do want to have fun with them, but they make it soooooo difficult????  The only thing that makes me super excited about summertime is that Big Brother starts tomorrow night!! WOO HOO!!!!

Hangin Tough

So Friday afternoon my hubby and I headed down to Atlantic City to check out the Package Tour!  When we first arrived I must admit that I was a little giddy when I walked right past all of their tour buses.  It took all I had in me not to start screaming and banging on the doors.  But the baby in my belly told me to just walk on by.  So I listened to the little man and headed into the casino for some grub.  We had a little time to kill before the show so we headed to the Hard Rock Cafe to eat a quick dinner.

IMG_1136

After dinner it was show time…. awww yeah!!!  The concert was at the Taj Mahal arena and it was a pretty cool venue.  It wasn’t that big so every seat had an awesome view.  The stage was in front but there was a ramp down right through the center of the floor {where most of the bands spent their time}.

The first act was Boyz II Men.  They were awesome.  They only played for about a half hour but they were just like I remembered.  We heard On Bended Knee, I’ll Make Love to You and of course Motown Philly! All the favorites.  I wished that they could have played a little bit longer but it was time for 98 degrees to hit the stage!  I still love me some Nick Lachey!!!!!   They performed a 45 minute set (about 9 songs) including I Do (Cherish You), Give Me Just One Night, The Hardest Thing & Because of You.

Now it was time for the main act, NKOTB {New Kids on the Block for all your crazy people who don’t know}.  It was epic!  They sang a handful of their new songs before belting out a ton of their older tunes.  They played for at least an hour and a half but  I lost track of time when Jordan Knight and Donnie Wahlberg took their shirts off.  For being 43 years old Donnie still is looking fine!!!!   They played a mixture of new and old songs.  I will admit that I didn’t know all of their new stuff but I still loved every minute of it.  I think I even saw my husband bobbing his head around a few times {of course that could have been the result of his beers}.  I was surprised but there were a lot of husbands and boyfriends in the crowd.

Sorry for the poor quality pics! The iphone doesn’t exactly take great photos when the spotlights are shining bright.

It was a great night and I am glad that I was able to see the boys again!  This is the 3rd time that I have gone since they started touring again in 2008.  Bring on the next one {get ready for it Joey}.

Happy Monday!

Finish the Sentence Friday – Week 29

Well it’s finally Friday! We survived another week {almost}. My son just dunked my hair dryer into my toliet about 20 seconds before I plugged it in to dry my hair. Thank goodness for me and the baby that I didn’t get shocked but I think my hair dryer is going to the dump! I know that I don’t even need to tell you which child of mine did this! This is what I get for trying to change sheets on a bed. God forbid I clean something up!

This weekend is going to be a fun and busy one. Tonight my hubby is taking me to Atlantic City to see The Package Tour. That’s right ladies, I am going to see NKOTB, 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men! WOO HOO!!!!!! I know that he is super excited too {NOT}. But he gets to attend a lot of concerts during the summer so this is how I get my revenge. He has no clue what he is in for.

Then on Saturday we are headed down to Delaware to celebrate my sister’s wedding. Yes, she got married in February but they weren’t able to have a reception because of busy schedules. So tomorrow is the day we get to celebrate! It’s going to be a big pool party at my mom’s house. I can’t wait.

Sunday is going to be a relaxing day! Hahaha NEVER! I plan on moving the toddler beds out of the baby’s room and start cleaning it up a bit. We need to get the wall repaired and painted soon. I am also hoping that we have time to take the boys to see Monsters University sometime that day. We will see.

Monsters-University-2013-Wallpaper-HD-for-Desktop

Alright so enough about me, let’s get to the Finish the Sentence Friday post!

This week’s question is: “The best and worst parts of blogging are…”

The best part about blogging is that I have a place where I can turn to to either vent, celebrate or share everything that goes on in my life. The good, the bad and the ugly. I have a memory book of sorts of the past and I can open up my page at any time and reflect on things. I sometimes forget what happened 5 minutes ago, let alone 6 months ago. I love just looking back at the pictures and posts and laughing {or crying} about some of the craziness that has gone on in our lives. Plus I get to share it all with you. I love that part as well. I love hearing your stories and I love knowing that I am not alone in this crazy world of parenting.

Now the worst part about blogging would have to be the time. It takes a lot of time to write and post each day. At the beginning I had a little more time since both boys were at school and I wasn’t pregnant. Now it’s the summer time and the boys consume my life 24/7. When I do have down time I tend to plop my butt on the couch with a snack, a glass of water and the DVR. Last night I fell asleep while laying with Ben at 7pm. I should have done this post last night but I had absolutely no energy. But I enjoy this blog and I am determined to keep it going. I might not post every day like I used to a few months ago but I am still posting often. It’s such a fun release and I enjoy it so much that I make the time for myself to sit down and write.

Alright everyone! That’s it for me this week. I am signing off until Monday. I am sure that I will have a bunch of pictures to share from the concert and party! Oh did I mention that my kids aren’t going to the party?? Nope, they are going to hang with my in-laws so Joey and I can have a day without chasing them around everywhere! Sweet!

Have a great weekend!

One Crazy Busy Week

I feel like I haven’t typed a post in ages! I mean a real post, not a baby update or a Wordless Wednesday post.  I finally have a few minutes a day while Sean is at camp to type up some posts. Of course Ben has been sick the past few days so my time is limited.  Let’s see what’s been going on with us.
Last Saturday my in-laws came up to our house so I could go to a Dave Matthews concert with Joey and some of our friends.  It was the first DMB concert that I have been to since I had Ben. I honestly think that my last DMB concert was back in 2006.  I couldn’t believe that it has been that long but lately I have been sending Joey to concerts with his friends. It’s too hard to get a babysitter all of the time so I pick and choose the shows wisely.  So it was nice to finally get out on the town and bar hop {oh wait, bar hopping sucks when you can’t drink beer}! But it was still fun hanging out with friends in Philly.  The concert was a lot of fun but I must admit that I didn’t know a lot of the songs.  I really haven’t been following Dave’s new songs over the past few years so I was a bit lost.  Thankfully I had good company!!!!

Sunday we spent the day packing up Ben’s stuff for his trip to southern Delaware with my in-laws.  It was his first time away without mommy and daddy!  We have gone away for a night here or there but never for this long.  He was so excited to go and I think that he packed up almost every single toy in our basement to take with him.  He just wanted to pack everything up so Sean couldn’t touch it.

From what I hear, he had a great week!  He played outside, spent a lot of time in his swing, got his haircut, and even played “bop the can”.  I’m still trying to figure that one out!  But he had fun and was well behaved so I am thankful. I missed him so much but it was nice to Facetime with him while he was away. I just love technology.  I remember spending a week or two at my grandparents house when I was little and waiting for that rotary dial phone {the only phone in their house} to ring so I could talk to my parents.  Times sure have changed.

Sunday night after Ben left we went out to dinner with daddy!  He was craving some ribs so we popped into Texas Roadhouse for some food!   Some of my best pictures of Joey and the boys are sitting in a booth at a restaurant.

photo 2 (2)

While Ben is away, Sean and I will play.  And by play I mean we just moved in with my mom in northern Delaware.  She has a big pool in her backyard so we decided to spend our time there since it was so freaking hot outside.  We went down Monday afternoon and swam all week long.  We did take a break to run some errands on Tuesday.  We hit up Newark to full fill my Grotto Pizza craving {twice}.

photo 5 (2)

On Wednesday we met up with my sister to do a tour of the Herr’s Potato Chip Factory!  I love a tour that gives out fresh chips at the end! We wrapped up that day by stopping by the mall to do some retail therapy {and Sean had some play time}.

We also went to a friends house for their annual July 4th picnic.  What did Sean do at the picnic? Well he swam for 4 hours straight. I could not get him out of that pool to eat.

While we were at the July 4th picnic, Joey went down state to pick up Ben from his parents house.   He spent the day visiting with them and drove back up that evening.  I was so happy to see Ben, but I think that Sean was a little more excited!  Despite all of their fighting he really did miss his brother. Oh and they had a fight within 10 minutes of reuniting!

On Friday we said goodbye to daddy so he could go off on his 4 day Phish tour in Saratoga Springs, NY.  I spent two more days at my moms with the boys and then headed back to New Jersey on Sunday afternoon.  We managed to squeeze in two more days of pool time. I don’t think that my mom has been in the pool that much since they put it in.  I know that she has never been in it this early in the season {or that early in the morning}.  She was a trooper with the boys!

So here we are on Wednesday.  I have my 20 week OBGYN appointment this afternoon and Joey is off to another Phish show tonight.  Sean started his first week of camp ever at his preschool.  HE LOVES IT!  This week they are celebrating all of the holidays.  Monday was Halloween and Tuesday was Christmas.  Sean told me Tuesday was Easter so I put him in an Easter shirt, only to find out it was Christmas! AHHH.  That kid loves to mess with me.

Ben has been sick now for a few days with a headache {and a fever at night}.  The boy refuses to take any kind of medicine other than his seizure meds.  The poor little guy, I hope he starts feeling better soon.  He was supposed to start karate last night but  I had to reschedule his orientation because he was sick.  I am so excited for him to start, I just hope that he enjoys it.  I can’t get this boy to commit to anything.  He wasn’t a fan of soccer and refused to do t-ball.  Let’s hope karate does it.  I want him to be active in something other than his angry bird games!

Well I guess that’s it for now.  Nothing else to report here in New Jersey other than it’s hot and humid! Happy Summer!

Christmas Pageants Galore

So the past two days I have been consumed by my boys Christmas pageants. Let me start by saying that I love these shows. I love when kids cry, I love when they scream “Hi Mom” and I love when some sit there and just pick their noses (or give bunny ears to the kid in front of them – like Ben did today).  Out kids and these shows remind us of the true meaning of Christmas and why it is so important. Just to quote Dr. Seuss from How the Grinch Stole Christmas (which we have watched a few times already this year)
“It came without ribbons!  It came without tags!
“It came without packages, boxes or bags!”
And then he puzzled three hours, till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before!
“Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store.
“Maybe Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!”
The past two days I have witnessed the same Christmas show twice but with two different groups of children. Each day was special and unique and filled my heart with joy. I was happy that for once I wasn’t thinking about Ben’s medical issues (okay I was slightly worried he would have a seizure and fall off the stage). I was thinking how joyous of a day it was, I was thinking about all of the families in CT that won’t get to see their children perform in any Christmas or holiday shows. I was just happy that I was able to watch my boys shine. Happy to see my boys up there giving it their all and having a great old time! I loved (and laughed) at how some of the parents acted with their cameras. It’s just an exciting time. Whether their first show or their last one it’s always amazing.
Yesterday was Sean’s day. I was a little worried that he wouldn’t stay in his seat but he was WONDERFUL! He sang every song and chatted with his bestie Maddie (who thankfully was seated right behind him). It was precious at times, he sat there with his head in his hands looking bored but he was still singing. I was so proud of my little man.
Today was another great day – Ben’s day! Yes, I was full of nerves that he was going to have a seizure and fall off the stage – but he didn’t! He was awesome. Ben is usually super shy but he sang every song, helped a friend when she lost her halo and was even giving bunny ears to the kid sitting in front of him. I was so proud of my shy guy!
Love the hands in his pockets!
He wanted to wear a tie and was mad that I tucked it into his sweater because he wanted everyone to see it.  I apologize to my husband for the horrible tie job! Even after I taped my husband showing me how to put on a tie I still got it wrong! But Ben was happy with it. He told me that he just wanted to look sharp!
So I think the past two days may have been a little stressful on mommy but they turned out to be wonderful! The kids have their countdown on to Santa’s arrival and the birth of baby Jesus. I am just thankful that I only have 6 more nights of moving Gary, our elf.

I have videos from the shows but I am having trouble uploading to YouTube. If I ever get them up on there I will post.
I know that Joey was sad he had to miss the show but we are so proud of him for all of the hard work that he has put in at work the past few months (and years). He is doing it all for us and I am so happy to have him as my husband (and daddy to our boys).  Yesterday was his birthday and I know that he worked his ass off to get home at a decent hour so he could see the boys. He went in early and came home a little after 8pm. We did get to celebrate with some beer, some presents and of course the Dogfish Head cake that I made just for him!
Happy Birthday Dear! We love you!
Have a great week guys! I know that I still need to do my Weight Watchers post. I have just been so busy and my mind is elsewhere. I haven’t posted daily updates, I haven’t blogged as often and by God I haven’t vacuumed my floor! AHHHHHH I now regret letting the boys put tinsel on the tree this year! Ahhhh tis the season!
PS. I apologize if my posts are scattered and incoherent these days but that’s where I’m at lately. I think that after I find out what is going on with Ben I will hopefully be back to myself – horrible grammar and all.
Love ya all!
I am almost to the top 50! Remember to vote daily! Thanks again for all of your support!

David Gray Concert

God, I love that man. He sure can sing.

I am finally getting a few minutes to write this post. The Eagles just lost a few minutes ago so I am a little wired right now and thought I would get this post done.

Last Monday night’s concert was absolutely amazing and a wonderful end to my three day weekend of mommy time. I think that I am still trying to recover. It takes about a month to get back into the swing of things after a weekend away from the family.

The Sunday after my girls weekend, my friend Leslie dropped me off at my moms house where I enjoyed one last night of peace and quiet. I sat around the house all day eating junk food, watching soaps and waiting for Joey to pick the kids up from school and get his behind down to Delaware. Thankfully, my in-laws offered to come up for a visit and would watch the boys for us so we didn’t need to bring them to Delaware.

After Joey picked me up we headed straight to Two Stones Pub on Naamans and Foulk Road. It just opened up the previous week and we were dying to try it.  It definitely did not disappoint. You can read all about the bar here in my Two Stones Pub Wilmington post. My hubby wrote that review for me. He does a much better job of remembering all of the beers! My review would sound like this, “I drank a few beers, they were good”.

After a few hours of eating and drinking some beers, we headed into Wilmington for the show. Oh, I almost forgot, we did hit up Ernest and Scott Taproom for one more drink before heading into The Grand.

So back to my boy David Gray…….

We missed the opening act but the one song I did hear sounded pretty good.  We finally got into our seats and had a few moments to chat with friends before David came on stage. He has such a relaxing and calming voice, I was in heaven. Yes, I was a little tipsy but sitting 8 rows back from David Gray was absolutely amazing.

He had an awesome play list (which he posted on his twitter so I stole it from there).
David Gray Wilmington Set List – The Box on the Lower Right Hand Corner
If you don’t know who David Gray is, Google him. He is a truly talented musician and an amazing performer.

Here are some videos of some of my favorite of his tracks

Of course Be Mine is my favorite song by David. We used this song at our wedding for our first dance. I was a little sad that he didn’t sing it this time around – since this was our anniversary gift to each other but that’s okay. He sang so many other good songs that I will forgive him.
When the concert ended, we dropped off our cousin at his car back at Two Stones and headed back to New Jersey. It was a late night and our 2:00am arrival at home was not too pleasant but it was worth it. Come back to the states soon David!!!!! Oh and my husband bought a ticket for last Friday’s show in New Brunswick and he said it was just as awesome. Gee thanks for the invite dear.
