30 Days of Thanks – November 30th

Day 30- November 30th

Today I am thankful that I survived this past month. My blog has been taking up a lot of my time but I am having the time of my life writing it. But these past 30 days have been hard. I have been trying to make new connections online all while trying to reach out to you my audience. I am hoping that over the next few months my blog will continue to grow and bring in new readers! I love sharing my life with you all. I may be shy at times but I really am an open book! Feel free to ask me anything.

I feel that this blog has given me something exciting to look forward to each day (besides my family of course). Now if I could only make a lot of money doing it then I would be on to something.  But I just like sharing my experiences as a wife, mom, friend and wine & beer drinker with you all. I appreciate all of the comments from people I talk to online (whether old friends, new friends or complete strangers). It’s nice to hear that I am not the only mom and wife going through these crazy experiences with my kids.

I would love over the next month or so to hear some more feedback from you all. Whether on Facebook, Twitter or on here in my comments section.  I value all of your opinions. The good, the bad and the ugly. I appreciate it all.

I know that the past month my blog has had a lot of changes and updates but I am just testing the waters and learning along the way. Now that I am getting into the swing of things, I looking forward to writing a lot more and hopefully entertaining you each and every day.

Some new stuff on the blog – new social media icons and a new button (thanks to my friend Jen Davis)

I have started accepting advertising on my site and the first month I did pretty well. I just hope that I can keep up with the ads as I gain new followers. 30 Days of Thanks – November 29th

Day 29 – November 29th

Today I am thankful for my mom.

Over the past 35 years (and especially the past five years) she has shown me so much strength and support. When my dad died I thought it was going to be such a hard road for us all (and don’t get me wrong it has not been easy) but we have survived and we are much stronger because of her. She has supported my sister and I through so many things over the years. She is always there to help out when I need a babysitter, advice on the kids or a glass of wine. She has been our rock and I will never be able to repay her for all that she has done! I hope my kids feel the same way about me in 30 years!

Right after Ben was born
Mom holding Sean
At the end of this week she will finally be able to turn in her Wilmington Trust badge and retire! Little does she know we have so much family time planned for her that she is going to wish that she was back at work! Ha! But honestly I am so happy that she is finally able to retire and start sleeping in during the week (not that she ever really stopped).
Thanks mom for all that you do for Joey, myself and the boys! We couldn’t have made it through the past few years without you!!!!
We love you!

30 Days of Thanks – November 28th

Day 28 – November 28th
Today I am thankful for having a house! It may not be as big as other homes and it may not be as neat and tidy as others but it is ours! I know that I may complain that we never have enough room and that we don’t have a guest room. I complain that our kitchen is too small and we don’t have enough storage, but I am just thankful that we are lucky enough to have a house to come home too. We have lived in our home now for 4 1/2 years now (the longest that I have lived anywhere other than my house growing up) and my kids have known no other place! This is our home sweet home!

We are the second house from the right – this was right before we moved in!

30 Days of Thanks – November 27th

Day 27 – November 27th
Today I am thankful for my health.  For the past few months, I have been trying to get healthy for me and for my family.

I have never had a problem with my weight. Growing up I could eat anything and everything and not gain a single pound. Of course I was involved in sports back then and well I was 16 so the weight never stuck! But once I had Ben I started to struggle with my weight. Then Sean came along and it was all downhill from there. Staying home in a house all day with two cranky toddlers can drive any sane person to the pantry for chips or cookies. I must admit that when they drive me nuts I run straight to the snacks. (I mean I can’t drink wine at 9am when they are giving me a hard time). Plus I can’t stand that I looked skinnier 2 months after having my boys than I do now.

3 months after having Ben

2 months after having Sean

But a few months ago I stepped on the scale and realized that I was the heaviest that I have ever been in my life (not pregnant). So I decided to do something about it.

First, I joined the gym. This is the first time in probably 18 years that I have ever been a member of a gym! I liked going because I could drop the boys off in the daycare and go work out.  I have been trying to build up from walking, to jogging to running. And I must admit that I was doing pretty well until I got sick, then the hurricane closed the gym and well life took over. I am finally back on track but I feel like after 3 weeks off I am starting from the beginning. But if that’s what I need to do, then I am okay with it.

Second, I joined Weight Watchers again. It worked for me the very first time that I was on it. I lost a lot of weight and felt great about myself. I enjoyed the beach that summer – until I quit WW and put all the weight (and then some) back on. It has taken me two years to realize that I am sick and tired of not fitting into some of my clothes. Sick of that number on the scale and sick to my stomach that I can not keep up with my boys. I love WW because you can eat whatever you want but you have to just watch your portions. You can check out my daily/weekly Weight Watcher updates here.

So I have committed myself to getting healthy and losing weight. I am half way to my goal but right now I have been having a hard time shedding the pounds. The first half came over very quickly but I have fallen off the wagon too many times over the past month. It’s so disappointing, but I am DETERMINED to not give up and I will get back on track again.

So right now I am thankful that I am halfway to my goal, thankful that my husband and I are showing our kids that we are trying to eat healthier and we are showing them what the inside of the gym looks like! My goal is that they will learn from our mistakes and not run to food when they are upset!

PS – I will have a new Weight Watchers update coming later today!! Stay tuned – it’s going to be a depressing one!

30 Days of Thanks – November 26th

Day 26 – November 26th

Today I am thankful for my super smart and super serious Ben.

He is such an amazing kid (when he’s not being a smart ass). Some days he asks me questions and I have no answers. Thank goodness for Google. He has adjusted to his glasses and looks super smart wearing them.

Ben has a great imagination and can turn anything into a train tunnel or train station. He loves all things trains (he gets that from my dad) and he doesn’t leave the house without a few trains in his pocket.  He loves building angry bird buildings just to knock them down and he would rather play games and color then get dirty in the mud. But I will tell you this kid is great at catching frogs! He loves the swing & playing at parks and he especially loves Great Adventure.

He isn’t into sports (soccer last 3 weeks) and would rather ride his big wheel than his bike but he always has fun. He loves books and I can’t wait until he can start reading on his own.

He has given us a few scares over the past two months and he is super sensitive but he has been so brave and I am so proud of him.

He is my first baby and I love him so much. I love his smart mouth and his ability to get Sean to do naughty things. I love that he enjoys snuggling and staying in his PJs all day. I mean just look at this kid! What’s not to love!

30 Days of Thanks – November 25th

Day 25 – November 25th

Today I am thankful that Sean is such a goofball. Be prepared for photo overload below! Sorry, but there are just so many cute pictures of this kid.

The boy is quite the handful. He gets into everything, breaks everything and gives me a near heart attack at least once a day but one of the many things that I love about Sean is that he is a total goofball. He doesn’t have one ounce of seriousness in his body (unlike his father and brother).  He is my carefree wild child.

When you are trying to discipline him or talk to him he will just look at you and make this silly face or roll his eyes in the most hilarious way. He doesn’t follow any rules and he doesn’t care.  He has this sweet soft side as well. If you are sad, he will hug and kiss you. If you have a boo boo he will be right there to help you feel better.

The kid may drive me nuts but he is lucky that he is so stinkin’ cute and such a funny little man. He reminds me so much of myself (and my father). I know that he is the one that I am going to have to watch out for when he gets older. He is the one that is going to keep me up at night because he missed his curfew or didn’t call me when he was supposed to. I guess I better get ready for it now.  But in the meantime I will be thankful for this sweet little silly face! God I love this kid!

30 Days of Thanks – November 24th

Day 24 – November 24th
Today I am thankful for all things Christmas.

I am thankful for Christmas movies, for Christmas lights, for Christmas stockings and for all the other beautiful decorations that come along with the season.

The movies are awesome. I love them all. The good ones, the bad ones and the super cheesy ones. Last night we watched A Christmas Story with the kids and today we watched Charlie Brown Christmas, Elf and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.  The kids enjoyed parts of each movie but were not that interested in sitting down to watch them in full.

We started decorating today. I took down all of my fall stuff and replaced it with Christmas lights, garland, snowmen and the Christmas manger. Only my kids would fight over the baby Jesus (technically he shouldn’t be in the manger yet – I’m know, I am a bad Catholic).  The kids understand that Christmas is coming up quickly because the moment the “Christmas closet” was opened they turned into crazy demons. Whew! It was an exhausting day and they are in bed already (and I am not far behind them).

Tomorrow we will finish decorating the tree and I will put the lights on outside. In a week or two we will probably go and get a second tree. We put this one in our basement and I am dying to have one (a real live one) in my living room this year. So hopefully next weekend we can go and chop one down! The kids have never had a real tree so I would love to start that tradition (instead of just always pulling the three out of the closet).

Oh and the whole Elf on the Shelf is a sham. My kids laugh in his face and tell me that he can’t even talk so Santa will never know that we are bad. I tried telling them that he could only talk to Santa and the other elves but they didn’t believe me.  Sean touched him the other day so he didn’t leave his spot for 2 nights. They didn’t care! The elf worked last year, I guess I’m screwed this year.  He is kind of creepy!

I hope that you are all having a wonderful weekend!

30 Days of Thanks – November 23rd

Day 23 – November 23rd
Today I am thankful that I am not one of those crazed lunatics that likes to fight the crowds for awesome deals. I am NOT a fan of black Friday at all.

I think it’s because I used to work in retail in the mall and hated the mall during the holiday season.  That’s one of the reasons that I like to shop early so I can avoid the mall at all costs. The only time I like going there this time of year is for Santa pictures!
Ben’s First Santa Visit
But for all of you guys that are brave enough to go out at midnight with the crowds – God Bless You! But today I am going to relax a bit, enjoy the warm weather and get these boys outside to play while daddy is in the city working! Oh and the hubby asked me to run to Target to pick up a star for our tree! Now normally I would jump on any chance to hit up Target but seriously he asked me to go there today of all days! No thanks!

Happy Shopping

30 Days of Thanks – November 22nd

Day 22 – November 22nd

Today I am thankful for my entire family! I am thankful for Joey, Ben, Sean, my mom, my in-laws, my sister and her boyfriend, my niece and my nephew. I am thankful that I am able to spend the day with almost all of them. I am hoping that my mother-in-law had a nice quiet day without too much pain from her surgery! We hope to see her and my father-in-law again soon.  Today was a day full of food, family time and of course football! The kids were up super early so we are all tired but they did help out a bit in the kitchen! (Oh and if you get sick from my pineapple casserole it’s because the boys helped me make it).

This is the kind of morning it was with the kids! Who needs a glass? I mean really it is wine… in a box…. and I was in New Castle! Totally normal, right?

Of course I am missing my dad like crazy. He always enjoyed having everyone together for the holidays!

But this is what helps me get through the day and appreciate what I have here today!

And we lost Ben
I wanted to thank my mom for putting up with the crazy clan all day today! I know that she is probably exhausted but it was a great dinner! Thanks for all of the food and calories it was fun spending time cooking with you and laughing at the table!
I hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and you are either sprawled out on the couch in your PJs watching tv, finishing with your Christmas decorations or maybe you are already asleep in bed! No matter what I hope that you are all safe and happy!
PS. We went around the table while we were eating and everyone said what they were thankful for. Sean took home the prize for the best response.  I said “Sean, what are you thankful for”. Sean’s answer “nobody, nothing”. Gee thanks Sean!
Happy Thanksgiving!

30 Days of Thanks – November 21st

Day 21 – November 21st

Today I am thankful that I was able to enjoy both Ben’s and Sean’s Thanksgiving celebrations at school over the past two days. Ben had his luncheon yesterday and Sean had his today! Their preschool has such a great event each year. The kids all get together for turkey, corn, rolls, applesauce and of course pie! The kids all look cute in their holiday clothes and enjoy hanging out with all of the other kids!

Here are a few pictures from Ben’s celebration yesterday.

Checking out what’s on his friends plate

Ben and a few of his friends

The “mom, I am still eating so stop taking pictures of me” smile!

Oh and notice who is still sitting there eating! He is always the last kid everyday out of his classroom because he is slow when he is eating. What can I say, my boy likes to take his time – not a bad thing!

Here are some pictures from Sean’s luncheon today! He looked so sweet sitting there with his class. He really is growing up so quickly! Now if I could only get him to sit still at home when we eat! Oh and the boy had two slices of pumpkin pie and still wanted me to go to McDonalds after we left!

Sean enjoying his lunch – sitting across the table from his buddy Maddie

Chomping on his roll with some of his classmates

Cheese (with a mouth full of food)

Waiting patiently for his pumpkin pie (the kid had two slices)

Acting shy with mommy (man I need some botox around those eyes)

My cute little man

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! I hope that everyone has a safe travel day and enjoys the extra time with their families!
