If I Were to Write a Christmas Letter, It Would Go Like This….

It’s that time of year where everyone sends out Christmas and Holiday cards of their gorgeous families. I love opening up each and every one.  I also love getting letters from friends and family, especially when I haven’t heard from someone in awhile and they aren’t on Facebook so I don’t get updates.  But I was thinking about the letters and what I would write if I had the time (or energy) to sit down and write one out.  I figured, I would give it a try here and share it with you all.

Our Christmas Letter

Over the past year, the boys have done so many amazing and wonderful things. It’s truly amazing at what they have accomplished in 2016.

I will start off with Ben.  He turned 8 in January and will be 9 in a few short weeks.  Since he turned 8, he has lost his ipad about 1,743 times for hitting his brothers and acting up.  He also learned quite a few curse words as well. He even knows the correct use for almost all of them.  Ben’s latest fascination, besides back talking, is that the middle finger isn’t just used for counting anymore. His father and I couldn’t be more proud of him.  Ben made a few sacraments this year at church.  One of them was Reconciliation. He confessed his sins to the Priest and God and was free of sin … well for about 8 minutes anyway.  He had a great summer, especially when he missed some of our vacation because of his naughty behavior. Glorious times.  This year he started 3rd grade.  He’s working really hard at becoming the class clown. Multiplication is a little tough for him but we work on it daily. And by working on it, I mean he screams at me  telling me that I don’t know what I am doing when I try to help him.  I love that little kid.

Now Sean. What can we say about Sean.  Well, no broken bones or stitches/glue this year. But hey, we still have a week left in the year.  Sean is now 7 and enjoys lip singing horrible songs on his musical.ly app on his ipad. His latest obsession that he can’t stop is bottle flipping.  He is pretty talented.  He also loves to do the dab.  He only picked up the dab about 6 months after it went out of style. I expect him to start the mannequin challenge in late June 2017. Oh and he did successfully destroy his ipad in a minor playground incident and just like his brothers, he also loves hitting (they all seem to enjoy a little smack down with each other).  Sean has done wonderful in school this year, he is reading well and trying really hard. He hasn’t been in too much trouble (wait, what? yes it’s true, he’s been really good in school this year).  He is also our sleep walker, sleep pee’er (?) and a sleep eater. He only peed off of our two story foyer twice.  We are so proud of that talent, now if he can just get it into the bowl…. I am always amazed at the things that I find in his room, Owen’s kindle (which I just realized is still missing), bananas in his sweatshirt drawer, equal packets under his bed and a can of icing behind his bookcase. He loves hiding food. I can’t wait until he becomes a true closet eater! Last night he snuck the icing off of the gingerbread house that we were going to decorate today. Guess that’s not happening now. Merry Freaking Christmas!

Owen, my little sweet baby Owen. Our precious pride and joy. He cursed at me the other day.  The boy loves to scream at the top of his lungs all of the time. He just recently gave up his naps, so I just increased my wine consumption. He did start school this year.  I know that he misses me those few hours a week. Owen refuses to potty train and will not go near the thing, unless he is playing in the water bowl like a cat. He successfully broke 4 wine glasses this year, but it’s not all his fault.  I shouldn’t have left my glass out on the kitchen counter when he decided to start throwing stuffed animals around.  Owen hasn’t slept in his bed in months. He prefers the floor next to his door so he can stay up late watching the tv downstairs in the family room. Smart kid! He’s the perfect combination of his two older brothers, so basically I’m screwed in about 2 years! But he is so freaking cute.

Combined this year, the boys had 7 cavities, 2 ear infections, 2 bouts of pneumonia, a pair of broken glasses and 1 bad diaper rash!  They have broken so many things that I can’t keep track anymore. My favorite was the virus that Ben uploaded onto my old laptop. Destroyed that thing in seconds! Heck, the boys even got into a fist fight at the Veterans cemetery. What a wonderful moment. It brought a tear to my eye. They have destroyed furniture, tore down curtain rods, flooded bathrooms into the kitchen but they still found time to catch a ton of Pokemon in Pokemon Go. I mean what mom wouldn’t be proud!?

Despite all of the destruction, bad language, hitting, and peeing, we made it through another year!

See you in 2017 (hopefully).

What’s Cooking Robbinsville?

So I got a little bored yesterday thinking of food ideas and decided that I needed to reach out to my friends and family. I was tired of the same Pinterest recipes and thought that some of the best recipes have to be with my friends, neighbors and family (near and far).  So I decided to create a Facebook Group called What’s Cooking Robbinsville? Now, you don’t have to be from Robbinsville to submit recipes or to grab some for yourself! Share this with all of your friends and neighbors.  The more recipes that we add, the better our spouses and kids will love us.

On my blog I will be updating the What’s Up Robbinsville? tab as often as I can. Right now I started my drop downs of themes.  The only link with recipes so far is under the Chicken Recipes link.

fried-rice2

If you submit something to the Facebook group, I might ask you if I can add your recipe to my blog.   My first event is live now over on the Facebook Page “Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner“.  Stop on over tonight and submit your own chicken recipes!

Happy Cooking!

PS – If anyone has a picture that I could use for the What’s Cooking Robbinsville? Facebook page let me know. The picture that I posted was from an Oktoberfest party that we hosted several years ago! Thanks!

Nuby Hippo Bath Spout Cover Review

I’m so excited, I just received a new shipment of goodies from Nuby! The box was filled with a bunch of great items to try with the kids. We have already tried them all but today I’m going to start with a favorite.

image

When I show the boys the items we get to test out, of course the first ones that we have to test out are the bath items. The first one that I’m going to talk about is the adorable Hippo Spout Guard. And if you look closely to the above picture, you know that my next review will be on the bath crayons. The kids are obsessed.

image

Even though my older boys are 6 and 7, they still love getting baths. Especially when they can play with their younger brothers bath toys. So a lot of the time I will throw two (and sometimes all three) of them into the tub for one big bath party. With so much chaos and water, I always worry about the baby hitting his head on the water spout. I used to have a cover when Ben and Sean were younger but got rid of it a long time ago. I never got around (aka I forgot) to buy one when Owen started taking baths in the bigger tub. Most of the spout covers do the job — prevent bumps and cuts on your precious kids head — but this hippo is extra special. I didn’t even realize it until I put him on and turned on the water that he sprayed water out of his nostrils. Hilarious.

image

When you open his mouth the water will just pour from there. But the kids loved seeing the hippo spray water towards them!

This is an awesome little guy. Not only does he protect the kids skulls but they can interact and play with him too.

The kids loved this guy. I had all three in the tub when I was taking pictures so I wasn’t able to snap off enough “internet appropriate” ones. Haha. I’ll try to snap a few more soon.

Oh and remember my old bath toy reviews? Well I still enjoy the whale Sea Scooper and Owen can’t get enough of the Splish Splash Stackable Cups.   He still gets a kick out of them. He loves filling them up and watching them spill out onto his belly or head.

The kids love their bath time so much. Maybe a little too much since they recently overflowed the big bath tub by splashing around. It flooded the floor and came through the ceiling in our kitchen. But I’ll save that story for another day! Grrrr!! My next review will be on the awesome Nuby bath time crayons.

You can follow Nuby below for information on all of their awesome baby products.

All of the Cool Moms Wear Brown

It’s been about 8 years since I stopped worked. 8 years since I stopped commuting into NYC. 8 years since I left my job in fashion to become a stay at home mom. 8 years since I stopped wearing cool clothes.

Now what the heck am I wearing? How did I go from wearing Ralph Lauren to this awful, light brown (tan? taupe?) button up outdoorsy styled shirt? Just look at those cool patches.

image

Oh did I forget to mention that I have become a Cub Scout Den mom?? What??? Both boys have joined Cub Scouts this year. Ben is a Wolf and Sean is a Tiger Scout.  Well Sean’s den was without a leader so I stepped in {along with the help of two fabulous co-leaders}.  I was a Girl Scout and have always wanted my boys to become Boy Scouts.  So far they seem to enjoy it.  They already had their first camping trip. Which was a huge success.

camp 2 camp

Here’s my new reading material for the next 10 months. I have been spending the past few weeks reading and studying all of the adventures that these boys need to complete over the next year.  I think that I have never studied this hard in my life.

unnamed (1)

So tonight I will be hosting my first ever den meeting at my house.  When I agreed we had about 8-9 scouts.  Now we are up to 11.  Oh my! I will be running the entire meeting, start to finish.  Yes me, the person who doesn’t like to speak in crowds, can’t handle my own three kids, and gets anxiety when more than 5 people are in a room…. Yeah I’ll have 11 kids (1st grade boys) as well as their parents (plus my kids) all at my house in a few hours. I might have to count how many times I hear the word fart, poop, pee and hungry. Boys!

I’m terrified. Why? I don’t really know why. Maybe it’s because they don’t make this shirt in a flattering color or size/shape for woman (I will need to contact Ralph so he can get to work on that). I just don’t like standing in front of people and teaching. That’s why I decided not to major in elementary education in college. So here I am about to teach 11 boys all about cub scouts, the Scout Oath, the Scout Law, and lead them through the many activities of scouting. I am the one (along with the the help of their parents) that will start them on their journey into Boy Scouts.  Pray for me! Oh wait no maybe you should pray for them. I’ll let you know how it goes.

I am not very crafty but I did create poster boards, games, spreadsheets and charts.

boy scout  unnamed

So does anyone know a good tailor for my shirt. I need to shorten it about 8 inches! UGH! So unflattering.  And there’s no way that I am posting a picture of myself in this shirt. It comes down to my knees (since they only make it in a men’s). I might have to tie it off to the side to give it some shape and style.

Oh and on a side note…. The boys are selling popcorn to support their Pack.  If you have any interest, please let me know.  The popcorn is not cheap, so consider it a wonderful donation to the Boy Scouts of America! LOL.

I Don’t Do Blood!!!!

I think that God {or my father} is laughing up in heaven right now. Someone has to be since I was blessed with three insane boys. Now if anyone knows me at all, then they know that I do not do medical stuff at all. The fact that I have had 3 c-sections is a freaking miracle. I am the girl in 2nd grade that saw someone bleed a bit and went to the nurse because I was nauseous. On my way to the nurse I passed out and knocked out a few teeth. I’m the girl that when someone talks about stitches or anything medical I must cover my ears or leave the room. I just can’t handle blood, stitches or any other kind of physical wounds.

I will admit that I have gotten a lot better lately now that I have three boys. But I’m not completely there yet. Last year I dropped a lightbulb on my foot and gashed it pretty bad. I was about to pass out and told Ben to call 911 if I did. Thankfully I did not.

The majority of the kids injuries have been minor and not enough blood to make me freak out. That is until 2015. Back in February Sean was playing at the bus stop on the snow and ice. He was just kicking it when he slipped and busted his eye and lip. I grabbed him and put him in my car. I then proceeded to sit on the curb with my head in between my knees. Thankfully a mom at the bus stop came to urgent care with me to help me through it all. I survived (barely).

image

Ben has had a few seizures over the years and I have only witnessed one but they just scare me. They don’t make me queasy. Thank goodness.

Then again this year Sean had an incident at school. Sean’s mouth + some kids skull = a busted lip. It was a little deep and I had to pick him up from school. I took him to urgent care where again they glued him. It really required a stitch but he wasn’t having it. So they tried glue. Again I survived.

image

Well just two weeks ago we had the worst of all injuries. A fall from the monkey bars at a friends house. Immediately I knew that Sean broke his wrist. It was just so misshaped … I just knew. I grabbed him and drove straight to the ER. I did pull over once to puke. But I put on my big girl mommy pants and got him to the ER. It wasn’t pretty but we made it there safely. 9 hours later he had his wrist reset and a new blue cast.  We went today for round 2 of X-rays and it looks like we are healing perfectly.  Hopefully in 2 weeks he can get a new cast that’s below the elbow.

image

Now yesterday Owen fell down 5 steps while I was in the bathroom. I heard him hit every step going down. Thank goodness there is a small landing. Well when I saw him I just saw a mouthful of blood. I scooped him up and spent a half hour getting the bleeding/crying to stop. I thought that he just busted his lips up but I think that we have some minor injuries to his teeth. Tomorrow he’s headed to the dentist to make sure that everything is ok.  Wish us luck.

Ugh im so not ready about the next 15 years with these boys and injuries.

Oops! We Forgot About Summer Reading?

image

We are now officially in a summer rut. Camps are all done, tempers are flaring and mommy is ready for school to start. Oh and I just realized that we haven’t really kept up {ok we haven’t started} our summer reading yet.

We have been pretty bad with reading this year so I’m hoping that we can catch up over the next 2 1/2 weeks. The boys have been in camp everyday for about 6 weeks so once they got home it was really play time, some tv and ipad time and then bath and bed. It was usually so late and hectic that we ended up skipping a lot of our reading. And what we did read I forgot to write down.

Right now the boys are so out of routine that reading has become a struggle. Sean went to reading camp this summer for about 3 weeks so that should count right???

Well since we need to do approximately 15 hours of reading I am going with the one book/chapter = ipad/tv time. It’s working for Ben. But since Sean struggles with reading he is giving me a really hard time. I don’t know what I’m going to do with him. I feel bad because he struggles and hates it but he just won’t focus for more than three pages. I really have to get him alone to sit and read {impossible with 3 kids}.

The next few weeks will be a struggle but as always I work best under pressure. So wish me luck and send me wine because I’m going to need it.

It’s About Time

No, I didn’t die, I just went MIA for  few months.  Okay for 6 months. I can’t believe that I have not blogged since February.  FEBRUARY!!!!  It’s now late July {eerrrr I mean mid August}and I am finally getting the chance to sit down and share everything. Not that anything drastic has happened since February {do you sense the sarcasm here}? Now this is going to be a pretty long post since a lot has happened over the past 6 months.  We have experienced a move, seizures, broken bones, new friends, smiles and tears.  We have experienced it all.  So sit back and get ready I am about to unload it all on you now.

So let’s see where do I begin. It was the end of January and my husband and I were thinking about moving.  We were in the townhouse with the three boys and we thought {hoped} that this might be the year that we would jump into the housing market and buy/sell.  So we discussed it one night and then the next thing  that I knew I had a week to get the house show ready and listed.  No sooner than we had our own house listed,  we found and bought our dream house. Those few days/weeks went by so fast I can’t even remember if I fed the kids during that time {don’t worry blogger trolls, I did and they are just fine}.

It was a hectic few weeks until our house sold but it all worked out perfectly.  My husband did all of the dirty work {thanks JC for dealing with the realtors / banks / lawyers }.  We settled on our new house right around the same time that our townhouse sold.  From what I hear the new family is so happy in our old house.  I am glad that they love it so much.  We did too but we just outgrew the space. Good bye old house.  You were so good to us.

Now onto the new digs.  We were here for about three weeks before we hired the movers to bring everything over.  It was so nice just driving by and checking on it {but I did not like having to shovel two houses during the snow storms}.  Finally in mid March we moved in.  We had the kids rooms and kitchen painted but everything else was pretty much ready to go.  I love my  new house so much!  Here are some pics. We made a lot of changes on the landscaping, paint colors and furniture, but the house is awesome. I never want to leave it.  I am so thankful that my husband spent so much of his time getting it done!  I promise to take some pictures of what it looks like with our furniture, but after 5 months I still have not decorated everything. I am still trying to find some minor pieces of furniture, curtains, etc.

Here are a few that I took recently.

IMG_5637  IMG_4025  IMG_4053 IMG_4900 IMG_4884IMG_5001

So we have been in this house for almost 5 months now and the kids are thrilled.  They have a ton of kids around to entertain them and we finally have a backyard now WITH SPACE.  So of course we had to put in a swingset and a basketball net for the boys. They love it. Ben even decided to take a nap in there one day.

unnamed (12)   IMG_4051

unnamed (11)  unnamed (10)

During all of this buying/selling stuff we had a few injuries with the boys.  The first was back in the winter when Sean fell at the bus stop and busted his head open on the ice.  I almost passed out and thankfully another mom came with me to the Urgent Care while they glued his eyebrow shut. You can see he was devastated by his injury.

IMG_2297

Then towards the end of the school year Ben had a few more seizures so we had to increase his medicine.  I am not lying when I tell you that within 2 weeks of school I was called to the nurse about 6 times.  There was one day that I had 3-4 phone calls.  It was a rough few weeks.  Oh and then Sean had to get his lip glued because he bashed it into some kids head on the playground.  So we had to stop by urgent care twice and the ER once over the past few months.  I guess that’s just the norm when you have 3 boys.

We finished up Ben’s basketball season and started Sean’s baseball.  It was a busy spring but the boys did great.  I am so proud of them.  We were hoping to do fall ball but with Sean’s recent injury I am just not ready to push him.

IMG_2776  IMG_2333

 IMG_4052  IMG_3220 IMG_2954

Joey and I have managed to squeeze in some together time as well.  We went to a few concerts this summer.  David Gray in NYC, Dave Matthews in Philly and Bare Naked Ladies right here in our local park.  I’m not going to complain about the rain at these shows but I will say that I HATE RAIN!!!!!! We were with great friends and had a few beers so it was an awesome few nights of fun.

IMG_4689  IMG_4650  IMG_4739

Somewhere in there we had the last day of school.  Sean is moving onto First Grade and Ben is headed to Second.  I can’t believe how quickly the school year flew by.  I am excited but also nervous for this year.  The boys will have a lot of homework and let’s just say that they aren’t the patient, sit on your butt and do your homework type of kids! PS. Yes Ben has had a haircut since these pics.  I know his hair was out of control.

IMG_4337   IMG_4346

Oh I almost forgot….. right after I moved, my mom listed her house and decided to move as well.  So after being in her house for over 40 years she packed it up and is waiting for her new place to be built.  It was sad to see the old house go. We have a ton of wonderful memories in that house. I will never forget those years.  Bye Bye Penn Acres.

IMG_3807  IMG_4558

IMG_4539

I am not going to lie, it’s been a pretty overwhelming few months. Between everyone’s health, moving, new cars, entertaining friends, a trip to NYC, camps, swim lessons, and sports I am ready to just sit back and relax. But… I know that is not going to happen for a long time since we have 3 very active boys.  I haven’t talked much about Owen in this post but don’t worry. I will post all about that crazy kid soon!  Here are some random pics from our summer.

IMG_5525 IMG_5508 IMG_5494

IMG_5441 IMG_5420

Oh I almost forgot, Sean’s latest injury.  He broke his stinking wrist.  We were dropping Ben off for swim lessons and we got there a few minutes early. I told the boys to go play on the swings while we waited for our turn.  Well within 5 seconds Sean fell off the monkey bars and was screaming bloody murder.  I saw his wrist and almost passed out. I knew right away that he broke it.  I rushed him to the ER {but not without pulling my car over to puke on the side of the road first}.  Of course they confirmed what I had suspected, two broken bones in his wrist.  Of course he had just eaten and they couldn’t sedate him for 8 hours so we had to wait until 11pm before they could reset his hand and put the cast on.  He was in so much pain so I was thankful when the morphine kicked in.  Now if they only supplied wine or morphine to the moms waiting with their sick kids …..  But he is doing great.  It’s been one week and the bones seem to be healing properly.  He uses it to much so we have to keep him in his sling for now.  Hopefully he will be getting the cast off right around the time school starts. Poor kid just can’t catch a break this year.

IMG_5621 IMG_5678

Alright. That’s all I have for now! whew. It’s only taken me 2 months to type up this one post.  I apologize for all the grammatical errors.  I have not had any time to proof read so deal with it!

Talk to you all soon!

Silly McGilly

“Top of the morning to you, the name is McGilly!”

92c9d1665f1dc0996fe2a0c248d455f6-171x300

It’s getting close to St. Patrick’s Day! Are you ready?

Now is the perfect time to start planning and here’s a great little gift for you! Silly McGilly.  I thought now would be a great time to repost the article that I wrote a few months ago about Silly McGilly. I have to pull out our Silly McGilly for the kids this week. I know that they will be excited to see him again!

_____________

So who is Silly McGilly? Well he is just one of the cutest little leprechauns around. Silly loves enjoys playing tricks on children throughout the St. Patrick’s Day season.

unnamed (15)

How does it work? Well just read his story with your children, then place Silly by the window each night. The real Silly will come play a trick in your home (or classroom). The next morning your kids will enjoy seeing the tricks that Silly did while they were sleeping. Silly can make an appearance for just one night, a week or the entire St. Patrick’s Day season! You decide.

unnamed (14)

Now the kids saw the Silly McGilly book and doll the other night so of course we read it right away. Ben was so excited to put Silly in his window. The next morning he woke up and noticed that Silly messed up all of his stuffed animals! Every night he asks about Silly. He is still in our window! Tomorrow the boys will wake up to a new trick! I don’t know if I will be able to put him away until St. Patrick’s Day. Ben might not want to give him up.

So would you want your own Silly McGilly box set? Head on over to SillyMcGilly.com to purchase your own book and doll today! Plus while you are there check out all of the sample tricks and activities that you can do with your children!

I am writing this post as a personal product review. I did not receive compensation for this review but I did receive a sample product. All of the opinions stated above are my own.

Summer of Fun

So I have been away from the blog most of the summer. I promised myself that I was going to blog 3 times a week this summer…. yeah that didn’t happen. I have been so busy trying to keep the boys entertained that I am usually worn out at night to sit down and write. I’ve been opting for a glass (or 3) of wine, Big Brother 16 and my bed!!! But we have been having a great time this year. At the beginning of summer I told the boys that we were going to have a summer of fun! I am trying my best to deliver that to them. It hasn’t been easy and they are still crazy, wild boys but I think that they are having a fun summer.

IMG_4297

So what have these boys been up too lately? We started off the summer with two weeks of swim lessons for both boys. It was amazing to see how much they learned in two short weeks. Before they started they wouldn’t get their heads wet and needed to use their swimmies. Now they are jumping off the side and spending hours and hours jumping under the water. I am so happy! Money well spent.

IMG_8622   IMG_8296

Ben also had two great weeks at CCD Camp. He loved it and I’m so glad that our church offers it as a camp instead of having to go every Wednesday night during the school year. It really was a great camp.

After he was done with his two weeks at CCD he started Basketball camp. He was so excited to go. He really only knew one or two other people but he wasn’t shy and seemed to have a blast everyday. It was pretty hot and then spent a lot of time outside but he never complained to me at all.

IMG_8544

IMG_8555

He may not be the strongest athlete but he is determined to get it and boy does he have fun trying. Now the first day of bball camp brought us a scare. Ben came home and had a seizure. It was the first one that I had ever witnessed. It was quick and it was scary. Joey took him to his neurologist last week and we increased his medicine and now we just pray that any future ones (and it seems like there will be more) are not too bad.

The next week we shipped Sean off to Kindergarten Camp at the High School. I signed him up for 3 weeks this summer. Ben LOVED it last year and I knew Sean would too. He goes for a full day from 9-3pm. Each week is a theme {i.e. insects, sports} and they spend the week reading, drawing and doing projects around those themes. They also have show and tell and sometimes water table fun!

After Ben wrapped up basketball camp he started his Rec Camp. Rec camp is pretty cool. It’s all day from 9-4pm. They have magicians, they take them to the pool and they do field trips. His first field trip was to the Camden Aquarium. I was so nervous putting him on a bus and sending him to Camden but he did great! He had a blast and I know that I was worried over nothing but it was his first official field trip!

Rec Camp is six weeks but I only signed him up for 2 weeks. Next year he will definitely do all six weeks. It’s such a great program and he gets to hang out with some of his school friends that he normally wouldn’t see over the summer.

When Rec Camp finishes this week then Ben is done with camps for the rest of the summer. Next week he will go down to my in-laws for some fun. Then two weeks home with me {Sean will be in Kindergarten camp during one of those weeks}. After that we have a nice family vacation planned! We are still booking a few things but it’s going to be fun!

Oh and besides all of the camps we have also entertained a ton of friends from near and far! We have gone bowling, hit up the toy store, played a ton of baseball basketball out back. We went to the carnival, swam with friends, went to mom mom’s pool and ate a ton of ice cream and popsicles.

Oh I almost forgot that Sean had a HUGE accomplishment this summer. He is turning 5 in a few short weeks and was so happy that he is now riding his bike without training wheels. The kid taught himself! He spent a day or two outside in the back yard practicing until he figured it out. Then after a few days of us helping him get on he did that all on his own too! The kid has such determination! I just know that Ben will pick it up soon!

Finally, just this past weekend we went to the beach for the first time this season. It was Owen’s first trip ever! He had a blast!

Owen is turning 8 months in a few days so I will try and do a fun post all about this handsome guy {aka the happiest baby in the world}.

I hope that you are all having a wonderful summer!
